Spring brings warmer weather, spring break vacations and holidays. Spring holidays also bring no shortage of comfort foods and goodies to delight us. I ate my share of speckled jelly beans before spring officially arrived on March 20. One secret to indulging in the goodies is to keep moving. This is especially true for kids. Kids4kids is one organization that is helping kids stay active. The organization’s goal is to assist youth and their parents in learning to be healthy and prevent childhood obesity one step at a time.

This Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday, Kids4kids will hold the 3rd Annual Kids4kids Walk-a-thon in Delray Beach.

The organization’s founder, Mark Roseme, explained to me that one in every three kids is considered overweight. He noted that today’s families have fewer free moments to prepare nutritious home meals or plan for activities that keep them moving. These similar concerns are shared by First Lady Michelle Obama and are part of the goal behind her Let’s Move Initiative. Mark Roseme’s Kid4kids organization hosts after school sports programs, sports and summer camps – all designed to keep kids moving one step at a time. His motto, “We are better to be proactive than reactive. Teamwork makes the dream work.” This weekend, about 400 people are expected to take the first step.
